Kiwanis welcomes Port Executive Director, prepares for fundraisers and annual banquet

President Brittany Barton opened today’s Kiwanis Club of Natchitoches meeting by celebrating the club’s recent service projects and highlighting upcoming events. Members were reminded of the club’s annual banquet on Thursday, October. 2 as well as the Kiwanis 5K Color Run and Pancake Festival, happening on Saturday, Sept. 20. Registration for the 5K Color Run is now open. Community members are invited to participate by signing up at: runsignup.com/Race/LA/Natchitoches/Kiwanis5KColorRunandPancakeFestival.

Today’s program was introduced by Kiwanian and Natchitoches Parish Port Commission board member Nettles Brown, who welcomed Travis Tyler, Executive Director of the Natchitoches Parish Port Commission. Tyler provided an overview of the port’s operations and its economic impact on the parish. He also informed members of an upcoming Oct. 11 ballot item proposing a millage to create an economic development fund, allowing the parish to better compete with neighboring regions. More information will be released next week through the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce.
