Founded in 1867, Natchitoches’ First Baptist Church North Street has long served as a stalwart beacon of faith and hope for a better future. The church’s congregation celebrated its 158 years of serving God by dedicating a new sign for the church Sunday, September 7.

Pastor J’Rel West gave the opening remarks after which Deacons Breelin Johnson and Ed Scott gave prayers and scripture. Mayor Ronnie Williams and Councilwoman at Large Betty Smith-Kirkendoll each gave a brief presentation. The mayor and councilwoman then joined Pastor West and senior members of the congregation in unveiling the new sign.

Formed 158 years ago under Rev. Rayford Blount, First Baptist Church North Street is one of the oldest churches in Natchitoches. The congregation originally met on Second St. and moved to their current location in 1957. Pastor West is in his second year of service and is originally from Alexandria where he graduated from Peabody High School before graduating from LSU. He is married to First Lady Crystal West who is a Natchitoches native and NCHS alumna.

The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes to congratulate the members of First Baptist Church North Street upon their church’s 158th anniversary. The Journal is donating the event photography. The album is unlocked and all are welcome to download any photos they wish.
