A traffic stop has resulted in the arrest of a Natchitoches man on felony drug charges, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright. NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies were patrolling in the City of Natchitoches on Sept. 23 around 9:30 pm when they stopped a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck for an equipment violation on Hwy. 3110 near University Parkway.
A deputy identified the driver of the vehicle as 34-year-old Phillip Cole Brown of Natchitoches. A background check revealed Brown had prior narcotics, theft, and gun violation arrests.
According to reports, deputies say Brown exhibited unusual signs of nervousness, which led them to believe criminal activity may have been occurring. Deputies obtained permission to search the vehicle. During the search, they discovered a glass smoking apparatus (pipe) commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics. When asked if there were any illegal narcotics in the vehicle, Brown responded, “a couple of grams.”
A further search led to the discovery and seizure of approximately 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Brown was placed under arrest without incident. He was transported and booked into LaSalle Corrections/Natchitoches Detention Center and charged with:
Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Equipment Violations
Brown remains in the Natchitoches Detention Center awaiting bond. The seized narcotics will be submitted to the crime lab for analysis.
What is Methamphetamine?
Methamphetamine, commonly known as “meth,” is a powerful and highly addictive central nervous system stimulant. It is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and limited medical use under strict regulation. Meth is often found in a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder and is typically smoked, snorted, injected, or taken orally. Abuse of meth can lead to severe health issues, including anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, and long-term brain damage.
Possession of methamphetamine without a prescription is illegal and considered a felony under Louisiana state law.
