Environmental assessment work for South Natchitoches Drainage Improvements

The City of Natchitoches announces that field investigation work associated with the Environmental Assessment phase of the South Natchitoches Drainage Improvements project will be performed during the week of Oct. 20.

This project, which is being funded through the Louisiana Watershed Initiative, involves drainage channel improvements designed to reduce flooding along Fairgrounds Road and Industrial Drive and in Pan Am and Towne South subdivisions.

The environmental field work will involve observing the natural features, taking photographs and GPS readings, and hand trowel soil sampling in order to determine potential issues that may require mitigation during construction of the project.

The hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for this project is nearing completion, following which the design and plan development work will begin. It is anticipated that construction could begin by the beginning of calendar year 2027.

Following submittal of a pre-application for this work in 2023, the City of Natchitoches was awarded $3.1 million for these needed drainage improvements.
