NSU Psychology Department partners with local church to support Thanksgiving meal program

The long-running Thanksgiving meal program organized by a local Methodist church is receiving expanded support this year thanks to a partnership with the Northwestern State University Department of Psychology within the Health and Human Performance (HHP) program.

The church’s annual initiative provides Thanksgiving meals to shut-ins and community members in need. This year, the Psychology Department stepped in to help address an additional concern: international student families experiencing food insecurity during campus closures.

Under the leadership of Dr. Patrice Moulton and Dr. Michael Moulton, the department raised $900 to supply 90 Walmart gift cards that will accompany the meals prepared and delivered by church volunteers on Thanksgiving morning. Organizers said the cards will be distributed to those experiencing the greatest need.

The collaborative effort ensures families not only receive a holiday meal but also have the means to purchase essential items during the break.
