City Council honors NSU Women’s Soccer team as 2025 Southland Conference champions

The Natchitoches City Council recognized the outstanding achievements of the Northwestern State University women’s soccer team during its Dec. 8 meeting, celebrating the team’s 2025 Southland Conference championship and remarkable season.

Parish Councilman Wayne Halm, a longtime supporter of NSU women’s soccer, dropped by the City Council chambers to present the recognition to the team, highlighting their dedication, teamwork, and contribution to the local community.

Head Coach Ian Brophy addressed the council, sharing the team’s accomplishments over the season. “We had a really good season—13 wins, 44 goals in 18 games, and we went unbeaten at home,” Brophy said. “The players were extraordinary, united, and fun to coach. The support from the community has been unbelievable.”

In addition to the team’s championship, Brophy highlighted individual honors, including Southland Conference Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. The team also included five first-team all-conference members, two second-team all-conference members, and a member of the All-Tournament team.

Council members presented an official recognition from the city of Natchitoches, acknowledging the team’s achievements. The certificate, signed by Mayor Ronnie Williams Jr., celebrated the 2025 Southland Conference Championship and honored the team’s hard work, dedication, and excellence on and off the field.

Mayor Williams and council members praised the team for their leadership, teamwork, and commitment to representing Natchitoches and NSU with distinction. The recognition concluded with a photo opportunity for the team, council members, and Coach Brophy, capturing the moment of celebration for the championship-winning squad.
