Robeline News: Wreck, upcoming meeting

By Courtney Freeman

The Los Adaes Foundation will hold its regular monthly meeting this Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. Come
join us as we work towards restoring this historical marker in our community.

As many have seen through various sources, we had another wreck in the s-curve of Robeline. In recent memory I can come up with 6 on the west bound side and 3 or 4 on the east bound side.

You would think that DOTD or some safety committee would note these incidents and put forward a plan. But apparently when approached to ask about a guardrail or barrier, local officials have been told there hasn’t been enough to warrant it. Thank God, I can only recall two fatalities, but there have been numerous incidents of destruction of property besides the vehicles involved in the accidents.

We lost our bank for over a year. And the westbound lane is especially dangerous because of the high chance you’ll roll over. We also are opening a clinic in the east bound side. Whose building materials were run over multiple times.

The highway department also held up the plans because they revoked the grandfathered access directly to the highway. Ok, fine. Since you kept your right of way, put up a guardrail on it to protect the public who may just be trying to seek care.

I think anyone actually looking into this would be shocked at the cost of replacing the arrows indicating a curve. They go down like bowling pins regularly. Three will go up, shortly there’s only two, then one, then none. Most who travel through have seen the tire tracks of some who took a wild ride but were able to get control before wrecking.

The wires like we have on I-49 would be perfect, in my opinion. I understand a guard rail is a hard hit, but the wires are made to give but slow down. Just something, anything would be better than playing the odds that the next wreck won’t be too bad.
