The Natchitoches Parish Library (NPL) invites families of the community to an evening of live music, outdoor games, and free food at the return of Family Picnic in the Park, set for Tuesday, April 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Natchitoches City Park. While attendance is free, registration is required for those planning to partake in the picnic meal of hotdogs, chips, and cookies provided by the Friends of the Natchitoches Parish Library. The meals supplied are limited and RSVPs must be received by Monday, April 6 at 5 p.m. To register, contact Natchitoches Parish Library at 318-238-9222.
This year’s gathering unites three community organizations, the NPL, the Natchitoches Parish Early Childhood Network, and the Louisiana Folklife Center, to offer an evening that celebrates local culture and strengthens the connections that make Natchitoches Parish home. The Louisiana Folklife Center will present a live performance by Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, bringing the energy of Louisiana’s rich musical heritage to the park. Families can also take part in a variety of lawn games and a search for three hidden Waldo figurines scattered throughout the festivities, with prizes awarded to the children who find them.
“What started as a simple idea to give families a free, relaxing evening out, a chance to unwind and make some new friends, has grown into something truly special,” said Alan Niette, NPL Deputy Director. “Seeing this event expand for its third year to include live musical entertainment and the opportunity for families to connect with other resources available to them in our community is a testament to what happens when Natchitoches Parish comes together.”
