The Natchitoches Parish Library Board of Control has hired a new director for the Natchitoches Parish Library, Jessica McGrath, effective June 1, 2015. Currently the Outreach Coordinator at the Arkansas State Library, Jessica and her family are anxious to make the move to Natchitoches and begin this exciting chapter of their lives.
Jessica’s roots run deep in Natchitoches, with family throughout. Many childhood memories come from visiting relatives in Natchitoches, contributing to her familiarity with the area and ultimately her choosing to attend Northwestern after graduating from Mansfield High School in Mansfield, Louisiana.
Jessica began her library career at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, while working on her M.L.S. at Texas Women’s University. After completing her degree, she and her husband moved to Arkansas where she worked as the Young Adult Librarian and eventually the Head of Adult Services at the Saline County Library. After their oldest daughter was born, the McGraths had the opportunity to move to Louisiana where Jessica was able to continue working with the public at both the DeSoto Parish and Red River Parish libraries. Their return to the Natural State was prompted by her husband’s desire to begin work as a hospital chaplain. Jessica joined the State Library staff as a reference librarian but quickly moved to the newly created outreach position. Although she has enjoyed working at the State Library, Jessica’s heart is in the public library. She knows that working with the general public sometimes provides challenging but extremely gratifying moments, all of which are made more enjoyable with a dedicated library staff.
She and her husband Mike, along with their two daughters, look forward to becoming a part of the Natchitoches community. Jessica sees this as an opportunity of a lifetime – to do what she loves in a place she considers home.
The Natchitoches Parish Library would also like to thank retiring director Robert E. Black for his many years of service to the library and the entire Natchitoches community.
