Church Street Bridge Inspection May 29

Please be advised that the Church Street Bridge will be closed on Friday, May 29, 2015, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm for a routine bridge inspection.  The City of Natchitoches appreciates the public’s patience during this process.

  1. I hope that, when DOT replaces this bridge, due consideration will be placed in the design so that it complements and enhances the “feel” of historic downtown Natchitoches. A bridge design that only considers engineering functionality could become an incongruent eyesore against the charm of the downtown vistas. The bridge should remain two lanes. Through traffic should be directed to a new bridge that needs to be built elsewhere and not funneled through downtown. The design and placement of new bridges and routes should be accomplished only after a thorough traffic flow study and projection is completed. The future traffic flow should be planned and managed rather than adjusting to and accommodating extant flow and infrastructure. I hope others will weigh in on this issue.
