Richard Rodgers of Lotus in the Pines will teach a yoga class July 20 at 6 p.m. for teens ages 13 and up with special needs – autism spectrum disorders, anxiety, depression, sensory challenges, stress, anxiety, etc. – at the Natchitoches Parish Library. A parent or guardian must accompany teens and are welcome to participate or observe. Participants are encouraged to register early at the second floor circulation desk at the Natchitoches Parish Library as there is limited space. Registration may also be done via email to Michelle Pichon, Teen Programmer, at michelle@natlib.org. A few yoga mats will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if possible.

Rodgers said, “The best reason I can think of is that it (yoga) has the ability to connect people to other people in unique and powerful ways. As we learn more about ourselves it enables us to better understand others and to see more clearly the bonds that connect us rather than the small and insignificant differences we have that we choose to let separate us. Parents and children can learn a great deal about each other by practicing together, as equals. Roles tend to fade into the background and a unity of spirit comes into sharp focus.”

For more information or if there are any special instructions the teacher will need to be aware of, parents or guardians may email or call Michelle Pichon at michelle@natlib.org or 318-238-9240.
