Festival Parade and Entertainment Cancelled; Fireworks Will Shoot

xmas201690

Sandra Dickens and Lee Waskom, Members of the Historic District Business Association (HDBA), and Mayor Lee Posey made an executive decision early this morning to cancel the Christmas Festival Parade and all entertainment activities for today. All vendors on the riverbank will be open for business.  The fireworks are still scheduled to shoot at 6:00 p.m.  The activities are being cancelled due to the heavy rain forecast for the entire day.

Armbands purchased for the Festival will be valid the weekend of December 10th. For additional information, call HDBA at (318) 652-7078.

  1. We travel from Midland and Odessa area in Texas for the festival every year we look forward to it it is our Christmas with our family there yes it was very disappointing that the festival was canceled but we still had a fantastic time because we were there with family we did get to see the fireworkslook forward to next years from West Texas

  2. We had a group of 14 come in from Houston….we come every year on festival weekend🎄And yes it was disappointing that there was no parade but we still had a great time. We had tarps on the front row and the rain stopped just before the fireworks show which is incredible. During the day we went in the shops and restaurants and bars and managed to stay dry☺ I just felt bad that the city was losing what I know is a huge amount of revenue that they rely on to continue and provide us with this wonderful shows😍

  3. Waahhhh! It’s not fair! Waaahhh! I want a parade! Waaaahhhhhhh! I hate rain! Waaaahhhhhh! Why didn’t the City of Natchitoches try to stop the bad weather! Waaaahhhh!!!!!!

  4. Only God has control of the weather! Disappointment is a part of life. It is sad for the children but we as adults must be an example before them and move on. Hoping next year will be better weather!😉

  5. The parade should be rescheduled! Lots of hard work went into the preparations. Natchitoches has to have their parade.

  6. Can you please provide information regarding the armbands for the reserved seating (tarps) on the river bank for the firework show? Will those be reissued next weekend?

  7. So if the entertainment and events won’t be rescheduled, what’s going on next weekend in order for us to use our wristband then?

  8. 1: Will refunds be issued for those who pre-purchased arm bands?
2: Why would anyone need arm bands next weekend if it’s going to be just like any other day?
3: When are they going to remover barricades since they’re not needed?
4: How will the City address the possible reimbursement to the thousands who came from out of town? Will they require hotels to refund?

    • The Christmas festival is one of , if not the biggest financial boom to your cities economy. You are worried about $8.00 wrist bands. If the parade had been allowed to continue in the inclement weather,I’m fairly certain that you would have complained about that. The visititors who traveled to Natchitoches for the festival, are surely disappointed, but I’m sure they understand that the city can not control the weather. The chance of inclement weather and cancellation is one of the chances you take when attending an outdoor event. To suggest that the city is responsible for hotel reimbursement is ridiculous. Here is an idea, why don’t you put on your rain boots and head downtown?! You can do some shopping in the locally owned shops that are still open and support the small business community. Have dinner at one of the local restaurants, since they will losing money this weekend as well. Just a few suggestions!
      MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄

    • **STREET CLOSURE UPDATE**
All streets closed for the Natchitoches Christmas Festival will reopen to traffic.
At 4:30 p.m., the Church Street Bridge and Williams Avenue north of Henry Avenue to St. Maurice and at the intersections of East Second Street with Stephens Avenue, St. Clair Avenue, Whitfield Drive, Sirod Street and Adelaide Street will be closed to traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian in preparation for the fireworks shoot at 6:00 p.m.

  9. Disappointed for Natchitoches! Lots of hard work and planning goes into this! We’ll be back next year!!

  10. I would expect streets and downtown bridge to reopen with all deliberate speeed. This unconstitutional violation of our freedom of movement and association threatens our safe space.

    • If there was such a thing as your constitutional right to freedom of movement and association, it would not be infringed upon just because the city closed a few roads and bridges for the safety of pedestrians.

    • LMAO! Thats hilarious … thank you for the laugh …. none of that has ANYTHING to do with the Constitution and rights, lol, no one MADE you go to the blocked areas which are controlled by the City and there are other routes available …. and as far as “Safe Spaces” ::Chuckle:: …. again, thanks for the laugh ….

  11. I would suspect that with the parade cancelled all the streets scheduled to be closed would now be open with the exception of the River Bank. However, there has been no announcement or update regarding street closures that I have seen.
