Two Campti residents arrested during traffic stop

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two north Natchitoches Parish residents during a traffic stop near Campti Saturday evening, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

NPSO Patrol Division deputies were patrolling on La. Hwy 9 north of Campti near the Dufrene Road Dec. 10 at 7:45 p.m. when they stopped a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck for a traffic violation.

Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as Quenton B. Jarnagin, 20, of the 600 block of Sandy Point Road in Campti. He informed them that he was having problems with his front brakes locking up on the vehicle.

Deputies identified a passenger in the vehicle as Karrie M. Smith, 18, of the 1700 block of Hwy. 486 in Campti. While doing so, they smelled a strong marijuana smoke odor.

Deputies also observed items in the vehicle commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics and asked Smith if she had been smoking marijuana in which she responded “earlier.”

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, seizing a plastic bag containing ½ gram of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Both Jarnagin and Smith, were booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with Possession of CDS I Marijuana, and felony Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine pending a court appearance.

Both remain in the Natchitoches Detention Center awaiting bond. The vehicle was impounded.
