2017 Kasey’s Heart & Soul: Run, Walk or Roll

By Kevin Shannahan

The Kasey’s Heart & Soul: Run, Walk or Roll fundraiser was held at NSU’s campus Saturday, March 11th. The popular event, now in it’s 6th year, attracted 400 runners as well as families and supporters. One runner even came from Nashville, TN to support this worthy cause.

In addition to the usual 1 mile Fun Run, and 5k, this year’s event featured a popular new twist, a “Roar Challenge” 5k race. In addition to the run, different stations were placed along the course at which runners would have to perform a series of exercises in order to advance. The events were devised by local fitness businesses and provided quite an extra challenge to the participants.

This year’s race is expected to raise $20,000.00 for the Lion’s Camp. The previous years’ races have raised $148,000.00 dollars for the camp which serves children with special needs. The race is held in memory of Kasey Joelle Ragan who served as a counselor at the camp for several years and for whom the camp and its children held a special place in her heart.
