Letter to the Editor: On Hodges Gardens State Park

From Mary Brocato

SPJ-HodgesGarden

We are in terrible danger of losing Hodges Gardens State Park. If the state does not find the money to fund the park adequately, it will close on June 31 and revert back to the Hodges Family Foundation. Do your part to help save this treasure in Sabine Parish. Write a letter or call the elected officials listed below and tell them to find the money, and keep Hodges Gardens State Park open. Do your part, please if you want to keep Hodges Gardens open. Please share.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FROM SABINE OR VERNON PARISHES OR EVEN LOUISIANA TO WRITE TO THESE STATE OFFICIALS. THE MORE PEOPLE THEY HEAR FROM, THE MORE LIKELY THEY ARE TO SOMEHOW FUND THE PARK. PLEASE SHARE.

  1. YES you need to keep this garden open !
People from all over the nation know about Hodges’s Garden , it is too beautiful!
You politicians need to figure it out and keep it OPEN ! It is a Louisiana Treasure .

  2. This is sad. I remember listening to an interview with a former Secretary of Treasurer back during the Blanco Administration when they were crying about a 40 or 50 million dollar deficit. He said the money was there, it was just earmarked for items that could be eliminated and free up the money. The examples he used was money
    for replacing state vehicles every
two years, rental on office space not being used, I believe he said we were utilizing only 70% of what was being paid for, money sat aside for replacing computer and electronic devices that were changed out well before necessary, money is sat aside for projected tax breaks to bring new business to the state even if they don’t come, and several other items such as this. This money is put back before anything else is budgeted. In 10 minutes he shaved the deficit to nothing……He said the MONEY IS THERE…just not being utilized properly. He said that he tried to change that when he was in office but the lawmakers looked the other way. Perhaps that could be readdressed.

  3. Well it was the Hodges Foundation who let the Garden go to rack and ruin before TheState Took it over to save it. They are well on the way to restoring to its original beautiful Garden in the Forest.

  4. How about names addresses and phone numbers of the Hodges Foundation petition them for some leniency…I think we would have better chance with them than trying to get money from the State that just isn’t there right now.
