The National History Day competition is one of the most prestigious academic competitions in the United States. This year’s theme was “Taking a Stand in History.” Several St. Mary’s students competed at the event held at the World War II Museum in New Orleans. Carissa Kautz and Chole Longlois’ entry on Jonas Salk and the Development of the Polio Vaccine won first place in the group exhibit portion.
Abigail Gardner’s entry on John Muir won first place in the individual exhibit area. Hundreds of students from all over the state participated. St. Mary’s winning entries will now represent the state of Louisiana in the National Competition held this June in Washington DC.
