Variety of non-credit courses to begin next week

Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic and Continuing Education will offer classes on cake decorating, line dancing, the basics of animation and water aerobics beginning next week.

Basic cake decorating will start on June 5 and last until July 17. The class will be taught on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Culinary Arts Building. The fee is $99.

This course focuses on the fundamentals of cake decorating. It is designed for the cake decorating shop owner, baker, caterer, chef or enthusiast. The class will stress classic decorating beginning with a thorough understanding of the fundamentals. Students will also be encouraged to express themselves creatively.

Basics of Animation will be taught on June 5-9 from 8 a.m. until noon in Room 227 of the new wing of the Center for Creative and Performing Arts. The fee is $225. The minimum age to enroll is 10. Maximum enrollment for the class is 15. Participants are required to bring a jump drive.

This course will teach how to animate using Adobe After Effects 2017. This introductory course will acquaint students with the interface, basic concepts and workspace in Adobe After Effects and learn basic animation techniques. Students will learn how to create unique animated texts using the Type tool. At the end of the course, students will have a short animation as an example of your creative skills.

A line dance class begins on June 5. The course will be offered on Monday through July 24 with a Thursday class on June 29. Class will not be taught on June 19, July 3 and 24. The course will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Room 127 of the Health and Human Performance Building. The fee is $65.

Country western, zydeco and hip hop dance styles will be covered along with an introduction to salsa and waltz.

A session of water aerobics will be offered on Tuesday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on June 6-29 at the Robert W. Wilson Recreation Complex pool. Additional sessions will be held on July 4-27 and August 2-17. The fee for session one and two is $45 and $22.50 for session three.

This workout consists of simple low impact exercises executed in the water. The program is designed to promote and maintain cardiorespiratory fitness, strengthen muscles and improve flexibility. This program is especially recommended for arthritic and/or pregnant women.
