Suspect surrenders after shooting man on Berry Avenue

Natchitoches Police Department officers responded to a 911 call July 11 at 8:39 am reporting a male suspect, identified as Jamie M. Zeno, 22 of the 1500 block of Pauline Street, was shot at 1327 Berry Avenue.

Zeno, suffering from a gun shot wound to his upper chest, was transported to University Health in Shreveport. Detectives received adequate information to establish the facts of the case and identify the shooter as Steven Vercher Jr., 18 of the 1300 block of Berry Avenue.

A search warrant was obtained for 747 Brahma Drive, which statements detectives collected pointed to as Vercher’s location. A SWAT team unit responded and a negotiator make contact with the shooter and talked him into surrendering.

Once in custody, NPD officers placed Vercher under arrest. He was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with one count of attempted second degree murder and one count of resisting an officer. He remains at the DC awaiting bond.

The NPD expresses its appreciation to the community, that went out of its way providing an overwhelming amount of support to detectives to help them locate the shooter.
