Stay cool as the temperature climbs

Homeland Heat Notice

With temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 90s and heat index values ranging from 105 to 108 degrees, the Natchitoches Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness offers the following tips to protect yourself from heat related incidents:

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency, call 911.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room,
stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

  1. Come by Jesus Lifted Ministries Community Center for a place to cool off and enjoy the amenities we offer such as Wi Fi, low impact exercise, reading library, learn and play chess (both adults and children), good fellowship, bible activities for your children, refreshments (ice tea, juices, etc) and support groups and internships for NSU students as well as help with research and APA/ MLA paper writing. Let’s see our community as a place that other communities want to model!
We can only do this together. Come share what you know and learn what others know. We hope that through getting to know one another both individual and community needs will be met! What an awesome concept.
