There’s still time for junior high and high school basketball coaches to register for a fast-moving series of sessions at Thursday’s 2017 NSU Basketball Coaching and Professional Development Clinic at Prather Coliseum.
The annual event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. costs just $30 including lunch and a T-shirt along with six presentations. Registration in advance can be accomplished by visiting DemonBasketballCamps.com online or by calling the NSU basketball office at 318-357-4274. Registration at the door Thursday is also welcomed, but earlier registration is appreciated.
More than 100 coaches annually attend the clinic, which is open to boys and girls coaches at all levels.
Speakers from the NSU basketball and athletic staffs will make presentations during the event at Prather Coliseum.
Headlining the speakers is the winningest college basketball coach in state history, Mike McConathy, about to begin his 19th season as the Demons’ head coach. He has coached girls high school basketball, junior college basketball at Bossier Parish Community College, and led NSU to its greatest era of major college success, including two NCAA Tournament victories and four postseason tournament appearances.
Second-year Lady Demons head coach Jordan Dupuy, a Baton Rouge native, and assistant coach Erin Crane will make presentations. Demon basketball staff members Major Deacon, formerly a successful Alabama high school coach, and Aaron Patrick will speak.
Also providing insight in their areas will be Jasmine Chievous, the NSU assistant athletic director for student-athlete development, and Esi Atinkah, NSU’s associate director of sports medicine.
