Two students from Natchitoches Central High School joined with two students from Saint Mary’s and over 100 prospective cadets, midshipmen and their families at the Service Academy Day held at Bossier Parish Community College Sept. 23. The event was sponsored by Louisiana senators Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy and congressmen Mike Johnson and John Abraham.

Representatives from West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy were joined by the Merchant Marine Academy and Coast Guard Academy to answer any questions about admissions to and life at, the service academies. In addition, Northwestern State University’s Demon Regiment was on hand to provide information about Army ROTC. The representatives and the senatorial and congressional staffers provided detailed information about the application process.

The Natchitoches Parish Journal extends its best wishes to Jeremy Friedel and George Ingrish of St. Mary’s and Aimsley Unbehagen and Eric Fobb of Natchitoches Central. I look forward to seeing them as fellow officers in a few years. The NPJ would also like to commend Lt. Col. Anthony Mault and 1SG Michael Selby of NCHS’ Army JROTC program for taking time to attend the program and for bringing students up to the event. The NPJ also wishes Naval Academy Midshipman 3rd Class Ladavish Dorn of Opelousas every success in her career. Young people such as yourself make us proud to be Louisianans.

“…to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government” – The Naval Academy mission, in part and not a bad way to sum up what officership is about.
