St. Mary’s presents Em Knipmeyer Award during Homecoming

Em Knipmeyer

Em Knipmeyer was a long time educator and former teacher and principal at St. Mary’s Catholic School. The Em Knipmeyer Award is presented annually by Mrs. Owen Stamey, Em Willis Knipmeyer’s sister. This is the 13th year the award has been presented, in her memory, to a teacher that shares her ideals in teaching.

This year’s recipient is Laura Hogg. Laura was born in Alexandria and grew up attending Catholic school. She received her BA in Elementary Education in 1995 from Louisiana Tech University. Hogg is certified for K-8th grade and her professional experience includes certification as a New Teacher Assessor and a New Teacher Mentor.

Hogg taught for 13 years before joining the St. Mary’s family, where she mostly teaches 4th grade math and science. As a 6 year member of the teaching staff, she is a tremendous asset to St. Mary’s Catholic School. Her vibrant smile and positive attitude are contagious and she brings joy to everyone around her. She is a great role model for students and staff and very much loved.

Pictured with Laura is her lovely family, Dr. John Hogg, son Carter, and daughter Sophia.

  1. Mrs Knipmeyer taught me at St Mary’s in 1968, I believe,so many years ago. She was a excellent teacher. We need more like her. She was concerned with students future and did not believe in nonsense in the classroom. It was a time to learn but she was caring for all her students. I have always talked about Mrs Knipmeyer to my children and grandchildren, how she was a super great teacher.
