Maggio’s Package Liquor owners Chris and Shelly Kendrick and Austin Niette extend their thanks to the public as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary in 2017.
Maggio’s continues to operate under the same principles Buddy and John Maggio established in 1967. Not just service, but full service has always been the key to success.
As noted in a recent New York Times article, customers find the old fashion method of being approached, helped with their selection, having their order retrieved and delivered, and processing their payment without getting out of their car, a unique experience that goes beyond convenience.
A second element that sets Maggio’s apart is its huge selection of fine wines, rare bourbons, scotches, cognacs, liquors, craft beer and frozen drinks. With over 2,000 products on the shelves, Maggio’s has the largest selection in the area, but they won’t hesitate to special order any request.
Maggio’s has 23 employees, most of whom are NSU students. Working at Maggio’s helps them finance their education without disrupting their class schedules. Most employees work through graduation, which enhances the store’s customer service.
“Maggio’s understands that school always comes first and they offer flexible schedules to accommodate us,” said Gavin Bazer, an NSU graduate and manager at Maggio’s. “Family also comes first and that’s what we are. The owners are great and this is my favorite job. Getting to know the people who live in this community has inspired me to become more involved with other businesses and organizations like the Natchitoches Young Professionals. It’s given me a good foundation.”
The staff not only knows the products, but they know their customers’ preferences. Maggio’s owners contribute regularly to employees’ fundraisers and support NSU at every opportunity.
Many local residents often tell stories of their days working at Maggio’s. Those that move away always stop by when visiting. Maggio’s is considered an “institution” and one of the most recognized businesses in Natchitoches. Visitors are fascinated by Maggio’s, often saying, “I wish we had a store like this.”
Maggio’s thanks Natchitoches residents for their continued support and hopes to serve the community for another 50 years. Stop by to grab a cup of their famous hand mixed egg nog starting Oct. 18. It’s just that good!
50th Anniversary commemorative t-shirts are available for $20 at the store.
