Sixteen-year-old Aida Frey has visited 299 national parks in 7 years. Her visit to Cane River Creole National Historical Park on Nov. 18 will mark her 300 visit. Join your Cane River National Park Service partners as we welcome Super Junior Ranger Aida Frey to the Cane River Creole National Historical Park, Cane River National Heritage Area and the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training!
According to Cane River Creole Park Superintendent Carrie Mardorf: “We’re so excited that Aida chose Cane River Creole National Historical Park as her 300th park for her junior ranger badge. We’ve been working diligently with our partners, the Cane River National Heritage Area, the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training, and the City of Natchitoches, to make the weekend a special event, not only for Aida but also for the broader public. We’re looking forward to celebrating this wonderful accomplishment with Aida, her family, and our partners.”
Aida is passionate about traveling with her family and participating in Junior Ranger programs across the country! Not only does she love learning about the various parks, she also hopes to inspire other kids to participate in Junior Ranger programs. She has even written a book about her adventures. In order to assist Aida in earning her badge there will be many opportunities to meet Aida and to share with her the unique Cane River Creole heritage.
A book signing will take place with Aida at the Natchitoches Parish Library on Friday, Nov. 17 from 3-6 pm. Join Aida at 9 am on Saturday at Oakland Plantation for a special behind the scenes tour of the plantation. Then tour the National Heritage Area with another behind the scenes tour of Magnolia Plantation.
We then invite everyone to join Aida for a reception celebrating the Living Legacy of Cane River at 1 pm at the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT). Following the reception there will be a special behind the scenes tour of the research laboratories of NCPTT. After the tour, Aida will be presented with her 301st Junior Ranger badge. This will be the first Junior Ranger badge ever given out by NCPTT. The Junior Ranger program was developed in honor of Aida’s visit to the Center.
