Three Northwestern State University math students participated in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) South Central USA Regional Programming Contest where the winner moves on to the world finals.
Coders were Alexandria Warner of Noble, Haley Jorgensen of Bossier City and James Nash of Ithaca, New York. Seventy-six teams from Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma competed at four colleges. NSU’s team earned 8th place in Louisiana.
Dr. Nicholas Richardson is an assistant professor of math and the team coach.
“The ACM programming contest gets the best programmers from the colleges in the area to compete against each other,” Richardson said. “I am happy with my team since they are math majors competing against computer science people and they were able to tie the score I made when I went to the same competition in college.”
