Everyone’s childhood is filled with the anticipation of Christmas morning. The inability to sleep on Christmas Eve, even though parents warn that Santa won’t come when they’re awake. The waiting to open presents on Christmas morning until the adults wake up and drink their coffee. The excitement to tear into the multitude of shiny gifts, topped with bows and filled with Christmas wishes.

Unfortunately, there are many children that go without presents. This is where Radio M*A*S*H comes in.

The 22nd annual Radio M*A*S*H event, which stands for “Make A Smile Happen,” will be held Dec. 8-9 in the Natchitoches Walmart parking lot.

Wanting to ensure that there are toys under the tree for every boy and girl in Natchitoches Parish, Radio M*A*S*H supports the Natchitoches Jaycees annual toy drive. Elite Radio Group (ERG), First Federal Bank of Louisiana, along with local individuals, businesses and organizations will work together to gather toys and make a smile happen for children in the community.

Program Manager Lou Byers got involved in Radio M*A*S*H in 2003 while working at an ERG sister station in Texas and he’s been doing it ever since. Now in Natchitoches, Lou says it’s a very worthy event that gets a lot of great community participation every year.

“I like this event because we get to deal with people one-to-one by giving back to those who are less fortunate,” said Lou. “It’s the perfect time of year to give back to your community.”

The event is a marathon broadcast on all Elite Radio Group radio stations. Listen to the broadcast from noon on Friday, Dec. 8 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 for constant updates.

Drop by the tent in the Walmart parking lot to make a toy or monetary donation. Challenge others to match your gift.

Together, we can Make A Smile Happen this Christmas.
