Kyzar re-elected as regional coordinator

Northwestern State University Assistant Professor of Nursing Dr. Theresa Kyzar was recently re-elected as the 2017-2019 North America Regional Coordinator for Sigma Theta Tau International, which is the 2nd largest nursing organization in the world.

As regional coordinator, Kyzar will exercise direct oversight of 37 nursing honor society chapters and 38 Schools/Colleges of Nursing within the region of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, which includes more than 9,000 members.

Kyzar was also appointed to serve on the Global Regions Council for North America. This Council will support Sigma’s mission to advance and improve world health and promote international nursing excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service.

Kyzar has been a member of NSU’s nursing faculty since 2005 and was named the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health’s Natchitoches campus coordinator earlier this year. She was named the College’s Educator of the Year in 2015.

A frequent presenter at state, national and international professional conferences, Kyser has held the Ray P. Oden and J. Dudley Talbot, MD Endowed Professorship.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Master of Science of Nursing and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and Ph.D. in Health Care Administration from Capella University.
