Over 100 students from 13 schools competed at the Louisiana Region IV Science and Engineering Fair held Saturday, February 24th at the LSU-A Campus in Alexandria. Natchitoches Junior High-Frankie Ray Jackson was the sole school from the Natchitoches parish schools to send students to the competition. They are the first team from the parish to attend in several years. The nine student strong contingent made an impressive debut! Catelyn Williams won first place in Material Sciences and will be going on to represent our parish at the State Science Fair at LSU in Baton Rouge. Tyshae Sowell won 2nd place in Energy: Physical Science and Jayla Guy won 3rd place in Plant Sciences. Students Gevalia Fisher, Kristy Law, Colby Burton, Brian Shields, Olivia Below and Brandon Below rounded out the team.
The Natchitoches Parish Journal would like to commend Principal Mason, the faculty and staff of NJH-Frankie Ray Jackson, science teacher Ms. Lori Bertrand and especially all of the young men and women who so ably rose to the challenge. Best wishes to Catelyn Williams in the state science fair!
