A missionary family will share about their work with the LightWay Church of the Nazarene Sunday, April 8 at 10:45 a.m. The church is located at 112 E. 5th Street in Natchitoches. All are invited to attend this service featuring the Young family.
The Young Family, is also known as the “Steadfast Pilgrims”. They serve as partner-funded “Global Servants” with the Church of the Nazarene. As Global Servants, they feel a calling to make Christlike disciples in the nations. “Partner-funded” means that they depend on the direct financial partnership and prayer support of other generous Christlike disciples for the majority of the support they need to serve globally.
The journey toward becoming partner-funded Global Servants began in 2003, while serving as pastors in the Church of the Nazarene. The Youngs felt a distinct call to make Christlike disciple in the nations, not just in their home country. The calling took some time to evolve into what it is today, but after 12 years in pastoral ministry, they left the United States for their first global assignment. That was 2011.
Recently, they were asked to consider a new assignment to the country of Timor Leste. They accepted the assignment, and will be moving to Timor Leste in June 2018. Timor Leste is a relatively new Island nation in South-East Asian, just north of Australia, formed in 2002 after finally securing its independence from colonial rule, after a decade long conflict. With just over 1.3 million inhabitants, it is a small nation, but one that faces great need. Poverty is high, educational opportunity is low, access to competent healthcare is sparse, the economy is still young and untested, and the Protestant church is in its infancy. The people of Timor Leste, however are resilient, light-hearted, and kind. The Youngs will be overseeing the work of the Church of the Nazarene there. With one organized church and three fellowship groups, there is much to do.
