Two NCHS athletes sign with Southern University at Shreveport

Natchitoches Central High School Seniors Adrian “Ace” Remo and Desmond Vaughn signed scholarship papers for Southern University at Shreveport. The two basketball players planned on going to college together and it came through.

“It feels good knowing I got someone coming with me that I’ve known for 4 years,” said Remo.

“Southern is a great opportunity for me to better my education and my game,” said Desmond.

It’s their exemplary work in academic and athletics that impressed Southern University Men’s Basketball Head Coach David Francis and Assistant Coach Curtis Stovall.

“They play hard,” said Francis.

“We were looking for super individuals on and off the court,” said Stovall. “Remo and Vaughn exemplify what we look for at Southern. I took the time to get to know them on a personal level and I was as impressed with that as I was their basketball skills.”

Remo averaged 10 points per game, three assists per game, and three rebounds per game. Vaughn averaged eight points per game, six rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game. Their record was 121 wins and 18 losses.

“This is a great occasion for Natchitoches Central,” said Boy’s Basketball Head Coach Micah Coleman. “We’re glad SUSLA has Chiefs coming to be a part of their program. We value our guys and what they’ll do after high school.”

NCHS Principal Bill Gordy said he’s excited to see two more athletes going on to play at the next level. He said both Remo and Vaughn really stepped up their game this year and have done an excellent job.

“I wish them well in their academic and athletic pursuits,” he said.
