Lakeview Band performs in the State Festival

The Lakeview Junior-Senior High School Band performed in the Louisiana Music Educators Association State Band Festival April 25. The North Louisiana Regional of the State Festival was hosted by Airline High School in Bossier City. In order to qualify for this event the Lakeview Band received superior ratings for their statge performance and and an excellent rating in sight-reading at the district level. At the state level, the band received excellent ratings in both stage performance and sight-reading from all of the adjudicators. This was the band’s third time qualifying for the state festival in the last four years, and the twenty-second time participating in the state festival for their band director, Denise Roper.

In addition to this honor, 11 Lakeview band members were selected to participate in the Louisiana Bandmasters Association All-Star honor bands, which will rehearse and perform at University of Louisiana at Lafayette in June. High school band members who have been selected to perform in this event on June 4 are: Joshua Graham, alto saxophone; Jo Porter, trumpet; James Earp, trumpet; Simon Messengmba, trombone; Myla Porter, baritone horn; Jeffrey Kain Custis, baritone horn; Mathew Johnson, percussion; and Amber Hembree, percussion. Middle school band members who have been selected to perform with the All-Star bands on June 5 are: Zoie Britt, flute; Shiann Harris, clarinet; and Stephan Prudhomme, trombone. Band director Denise Roper was also honored recently with a nomination for L.B.A. Bandmaster of the Year.
