A train broke down on the tracks at the Hwy. 1 South and Hwy. 1 Bypass intersection, blocking several railroad crossings on May 22. Workers attempted to fix the train for several hours. The Natchitoches Police Department opened the emergency access road for Pan Am and Town South subdivisions.

  1. After trying for years to get an exit for Pan Am and Town South because of the train blocking us in, it only becomes a big issue when it blocks the crossing on Highway 1 and the Bypass. Well at least now someone knows how we have felt to be blocked in. Thank God there was no emergency for us. I guess we never mattered but now you have some big shots complaining so it’s newsworthy. As far as the so called emergency access road, I guess we’re still not important enough to keep them open. We still need permission to get in and out. Maybe the train should block the Bypass for a whole day like it did us before. You get no sympathy here at all.
