By Samantha Maiette

Competition BBQ is returning to Natchitoches this weekend, June 1-2, in the form of the Natchitoches Area Jaycees’ annual Cookin’ on the Cane BBQ Festival. This year’s festivities will take place on NSU’s campus on the tailgating field. Judging will be held Saturday beginning at 12 pm.

“We’re looking forward to hosting this competition again in Natchitoches,” said Jaycees President Stewart Carnline.

Contestants must be 18 or older and must follow all IBCA competition rules. The categories being judged are beef brisket, pork spare ribs and chicken.

There will also be a Kids Que BBQ Pork Chop Competition. Children ages 5-16 are allowed to compete. The child must be able to do most of the cooking, but they are required to have an adult with them during the event.

It is free to walk through and spectators are allowed to talk to contestants. However, there will not be food available for purchase.
