Family Day brings live music to City Park with ‘Purple Staircase’

Purple Staircase

Purple Staircase will bring the beat to the Family Day event in City Park this Saturday, June 9 beginning at 11 am. The Family Day event will run from 10 am – 1 pm and features:

Live music
Zumba with Kimmy at 10:30 am
A free swim day at the City pool
Petting zoo
Inflatable obstacle course
Face painting
Activity booths
Balloon animals
Hotdogs, cotton candy, pickles, popcorn, son cones and more

The best part is this event is completely free for the Natchitoches Parish community. Families are welcome to come out for snacks, music and lots of fun!

So who is Purple Staircase? The band is comprised of students from Northwestern State University including:

Eric Neeley-base
Taylor Arnouville- lead vocals
Jeb Barrett- electric guitar
Austin Pierre- drums
Andrew Boyd- keyboard
Alexander Guillory- sax
Sebastian Fontalvo- trumpet
John Irion- trombone
Quentin Helaire- alternate drummer
Travis Sibley- alternate drummer

Alexander initially brought the group of college friends together to jam and perform in the community. It’s morphed into a bigger than life performing group that’s able to rock out at big festivals with their jazz fusion, funk and R&B sounds. Not many groups around town boast a full horn section!

The band also breaks down into its sister group: Sleepy Tea Quintet, for smaller venues and events.

What makes Purple Staurcase unique? Every member has their own personality, which makes for a diverse group of musicians. It’s definitely a good representation of NSU’s College of Creative and Performing Arts at work.

Most of the band’s members give credit for some of their music education to local musician Hardrick Rivers.

“We have a wonderful tradition of sitting in with Hardrick,” said Alexander. “We’ve performed with him, watched him play and learned so much from him. He’s a big part of the older musicians encouraging new blood in the community.”

The City of Natchitoches, Northwestern State University and the Natchitoches Parish Journal are co-hosting Family Day, which is free and open to the public. For more information email Dallas Russell at or Corey Poole at
