Family Day provides Natchitoches community with fun way to enjoy summer

By Jessica Poole

The community came out for Family Day on June 9 despite the hot summer weather. The City pool stayed full as children and adults enjoyed a free swim day to beat the heat. Popsicles, snow cones and plenty of drinks helped cool everyone down. City Marshal Randy Williams served up hot dogs, sponsored by the Krewe of Dionysos. There were multiple booths run by local businesses and organizations that provided activities including jewelry making, planting, squirt gun painting, ring toss, water gun races, twister, and more. There was even a petting zoo, sponsored by United Way, which allowed kids to get up close and personal with rabbits, sheep, baby goats, a donkey and two ponies. Student athletes from Northwestern State University played games with kids at the Portable Park. Kimmy Smith got people moving with some Zumba and Dazzle Dance Center wowed the crowd with their routines. Then Purple Staircase ended the day with a live performance to keep people dancing. Despite the high temperature and the day was full of fun and festivities.

Family day was an event hosted by the NPJ, City of Natchitoches, and NSU. Sponsors included: Atmos Energy, Alliance, United Way, BOM, Natchitoches Flipping Athletics, Krewe of Dionysos, Cane River Paddle Sports, City Bank, Fisher’s Sports & Signs, Cane River Charities, Exchange Bank, Boost Circuit, Sonic, City Bank & Trust and MidSouth Bank.
