The NCHS “Pride of the Tribe” Band has been a fixture in the Natchitoches community for many years. The band participates in many community activities, such as NCHS football games, local festival parades, and concerts throughout the year. The band has also participated and received recognition in statewide music education events, such as the LMEA Large Ensemble Assessment and Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Activities over the past year:
Community Performances: Football games, Christmas Festival Parade
School Performances: Pep Rallies, Veteran’s Day Program, Christmas Program, Cultural Awareness Program, Academic Pep Rally
Competitions: LMEA District II Honor Band (one student auditioned into this group), LMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival (two soloists competed and received Excellent ratings, two ensembles received Excellent ratings, and two ensembles received Superior ratings), LMEA Large Ensemble Assessment (the band received Excellent ratings in both the concert and sight-reading portions of the contest)
The hard work and dedication of the students is what makes the bands so successful. From Friday night lights, to the halftime shows, to parades, concerts, contests, and the classroom, the students continue to excel in every aspect of the program. The band program teaches students discipline, good work ethics, team building skills, musicality, athleticism, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and respect to name a few.
“The band is growing, which is wonderful,” said Director of Bands Aleisa Hudlow. “But we are in desperate need of many things, including instrument repairs, marching instruments, percussion instruments, percussion equipment, travel funds, music, supplies, a trailer, new uniforms, and funds for year-to-year maintenance. While we do receive some funds from the school board, it is not nearly as much as a growing program needs in order to function and improve. This is why we are now turning to local businesses to see what the community is willing to do to help!”
The band is beginning to raise funds by asking local businesses for donations to the program. The NCHS Band Sponsorship Program is a great way to get involved and help positively impact the musical experience of the students and the community. There are various levels of sponsorship, and any amount will be helpful and appreciated.
