2018 Wet and Wild 5k-a Race with a Purpose

About 25 area runners braved squirt guns, water balloons and a slip and slide in the inaugural Wet and Wild 5k race held Saturday July 7th at the NSU Campus. The race, sponsored by Beaudoin Fitness and the Natchitoches Fire Department, was organized to raise money for the Natchitoches Parks and Recreation Department’s summer programs for our city’s youth. Volunteers from the community and NSU manned stations along the route that tossed water balloons at the racers and hit them with squirt guns-a not entirely unwelcome event in the July heat! The racers started and ended their course under a large American Flag suspended from a Natchitoches Fire Department ladder truck in the Prather Pavilion lot.. The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for a number of programs to keep our children engaged and busy during the summer months. The money raised at the race will be put to good use helping them do this.
