The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 passed by Congress included additional discretionary funding for the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) grant for all states. This means that Louisiana will receive a one-time allotment of an additional $39 million in CCDF funds. At least $27 million of these funds will help serve children on the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) waiting list.
Exactly 4500 families will be contacted by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) on Aug. 1 with notification of available funds for their family. The funding will assist with the cost of tuition in a quality child care facility. As of date over 7,000 families are on the wait list. The families on the waitlist the longest will be notified first until the state reaches 4,500. If any of those families are no longer eligible, complete requirements in a timely manner, or no longer need assistance more families will be notified. At this time the state will continue to notify families until 4,500 families have assistance and are enrolled in a site.
Families are urged not to contact Louisiana Department of Education. Families will ONLY be notified if they are one of the 4500 by phone, email, and/or physical mail. A Waitlist Verification Form will be mailed to the families to update eligibility information. This form MUST BE RETURNED WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS, IF ANY CHANGES ARE MADE LDOE WILL REQUIRE A CCAP 10 FORM TO BE COMPLETED AND SUPPORT DOCUMENTS MUST ALSO BE SUBMITTED WITHIN THOSE TEN DAYS, OTHER WISE THE FAMILY WILL HAVE TO RE-APPLY FOR CCAP AND RETURN TO THE END OF THE WAITLIST.
Natchitoches currently has 80 families on the Waitlist and 70% will be awarded funding. The City of Natchitoches Early Childhood Education & Development office has no knowledge of WHO will be awarded funding however the office will submit the Waitlist Verification forms (and CCAP 10 form if needed) to LDOE to assist with meeting the ten day deadline. Please be sure to check mail and answer calls starting Aug 1st if you are a parent on the waitlist.
