Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Campti woman on felony drug charges Aug. 29 at 10 am, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

NPSO Patrol Division deputies were patrolling on the Sandy Point Road north of Campti when they observed a 2008 Hyundai Tuscon parked on the side of the road with a woman slumped over the steering wheel.

Deputies stopped to assist what appeared to be a possible stranded motorist or medical emergency.

Deputies say after several attempts they were able to gain the driver’s attention identified as Charlene Michelle Harper, 31 of the 100 block of Jim Bell Road in Campti. Harper appeared disoriented and confused. Deputies asked her what was she doing she replied “praying.”

Deputies obtained permission to search Harper’s vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a bottle containing several pills including (10) ten suspected Clonazepam narcotic pills.

Clonazepam is prescribed by physicians to treat anxiety disorders. Harper did not possess a prescription for the controlled dangerous substance. She was placed under arrest and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. She was charged with Illegal Possession of CDS Schedule IV Clonazepam.

Harper remains in the Natchitoches Detention Center. While interviewing Harper, deputies say Harper stated someone gave her the pills. The seized narcotics will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics analyis.

Involved in the arrest were Deputy M. Giomonne assisted by Sgt. J. Augustus. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the NMJDTF.
