Rehabilitation Work to Begin on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive


Mayor Lee Posey announced that rehabilitation work begin Oct. 1 on the portion of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Amulet Street and Texas Street.

This work, consisting of cold-planing, base reconstruction, and asphalt overlay, is part of the 2017-18 Phase 2 Street Rehabilitation Program, the contract for which was awarded to Regional Construction, LLC, in August.

During the cold-planing and asphalt overlay phases of the work, two-way, one-lane traffic will be maintained. However, during the base reconstruction phase of the work, two-block segments of MLK Drive will be closed to through traffic. During these times, motorists will detour around the work site utilizing alternate routes.

It is anticipated that this work will be completed within approximately five calendar days, weather permitting.
