Restoring Glory at American Cemetery

Cemetary Cleanup
The Louisiana Society Children of the American Revolution will be hosting an effort to clean gravestones at American Cemetery in Natchitoches on Oct. 6 at 9 am.

Leah Swanstrom, LSCAR State President, has organized the event as part of her state project “Restoring Glory.” The event will begin with a presentation by Jason Church on the proper methods and tools used to clean gravestones. Church works for the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training in Natchitoches and conducts similar presentations nationwide.

After the presentation, participants will get to work cleaning gravestones. A special effort will be made to clean the gravestones of patriots from the American Revolution and other veterans. The event is free and open to the public. Cleaning materials and tools will be provided, but it is suggested that you wear work clothes and gloves.
