Six residents were recognized as Natchitoches Treasures by the City on Oct. 25. The inductees were Dr. Robert Alost, Irene Johnson, Former Senator Don Kelly, Juanita Murphy, Hyland Packard and Ed Ward Jr.

Louie Bernard was the master of ceremonies for the event. He introduced each treasure and spoke on their involvement in the Natchitoches community and their selfless volunteering and dedication that got them nominated as a treasure.

“I’ve enjoyed Natchitoches more than you can imagine,” said Robert Alost.

Don Kelly endorsed Bernard as the next state senator for the Natchitoches area before telling everyone what a privilege and honor it is for him to receive such an honor as a “Natchitoches Treasure” title. “This is one of the finest towns I’ve ever seen in any state,” he said proudly.

Since 2008 when former mayor Wayne McCullen first envisioned the Natchitoches Treasures program, a group of individuals is inducted yearly in recognition of their work within the community
