Petition filed against Clarence Mayor for violations

The Natchitoches Parish District Attorney’s Office filed a petition for writ of mandamus at the Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Courts Office Oct. 26 (Case Number 90655-B). The petition cites violations by Clarence Mayor Tommy Evans regarding The Open Meeting Law and more.

It claims that Evans, as mayor, has failed in his ministerial duties to have open meetings in the Village of Clarence at least one time per month. He even went so far as to change the locks at City Hall to prevent the Board of Alderman from meeting.

Bulk water invoices are also outstanding, owed to the City of Natchitoches, in an amount exceeding $20,000. The petition states, “The City gave notice that clean bulk water may be discontinued for the Mayor’s absolute failure to pay the water bill.”
