Tuesday, November 6th marked a first for NSU’s Prather Coliseum as the university hosted its first ever doubleheader with two different sports. It was to prove a winning combination! The evening started with Demon volleyball delivering a 3-0 clean sweep of the visiting Southeastern Louisiana University Lions in an exciting match that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats until the final serve.
The NSU men’s basketball team completed the evening’s fun with their first home game of the season. The Demons delivered a 102-62 thrashing of the Centenary Gents in a most auspicious start to the season’s hardwood action.
The “Purple Haze” Pep Band kept the Demons and their fans spirits high throughout both matches with their signature high energy music. In addition to their music, the band gave no quarter to errant referees and opposing players. The cheerleaders and pom-line also kept up a steady drumbeat of support, cheering, stunting, dancing and throwing souvenir t-shirts to appreciative NSU fans.
This two sport doubleheader was a wonderful event. May it be the start of a new Northwestern State University tradition!
