NSU alum give back to community through Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving Dinners

Phillip Jean-Louis Jr. and Carlos Hartwell are preparing to hold their 5th annual “Come Give Thanks With Us Dinner.” This year will be a bit different. Instead of a fully cooked dinner, a Thanksgiving meal-in-a-box will be handed out, which includes a frozen turkey and sides to prepare at home. The boxes, which feed a family of 5-6, will be handed out Sunday, Nov. 18 from 12-4 pm at the John Below Community Center, located at 1320 Dixie Street in Natchitoches.

“We’re always thinking about what’s next for our mission,” said Phillip. “We’ve always fed people, but this year we wanted to go deeper. With all the negativity in the world today, we want families to do something different and take more time to enjoy a more hand son Thanksgiving experience.”

The two Northwestern State University graduates self-fund the “Come Give Thanks With Us Dinner” as part of The Gloria Project Family Integrated Services, LLC. At NSU they were members of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Jean-Louis played baseball and Hartwell was a member of the marching band.

Hot and fresh gumbo will be served at the event and DJ Adrian Edeney will provide music.

“Natchitoches is our second home,” said Hartwell. “The people here show us a different type of love and we always love coming back.”
