Natchitoches families receive Thanksgiving meals

The 5th annual “Come Give Thanks With Us Dinner” was a hit, according to founders Phillip Jean-Louis Jr. and Carlos Hartwell. The duo of NSU alum passed out 250 boxes which included all the fixings for a full Thanksgiving meal on Nov. 18.

“By far, this was our best year doing the event,” said Phillip. “We had over 250 turkeys, 300+ can goods, 300+ boxes of mac and cheese, 300 pounds of rice, cornbread and gumbo for everyone. Everything went. We didn’t have one turkey left on site.”

DJ Adrian Edney played music outside, younger kids played basketball in the park, and everyone fellowshipped.

“It felt back like the good old days when everyone just had a good time,” said Carlos. “Our volunteers did great getting the food out in such a quick time. From the event this year, we are confident that more and more people will come out next year.”

Everyone who came and received food were treated well. Volunteers were able to guide them in the right place and made sure that everyone felt comfortable while getting their food. In fact, they were so comfortable a lot of people who came out stayed after they received their meals to take home and ate some gumbo.

“Everyone was comfortable and no one wanted to leave,” said Phillip. “That is exactly what made this event so special this year. Carlos and I would like to give a special thanks to all volunteers, sponsors, and donations. This is an event that is enjoyable for everyone. I am blessed that God has given us the opportunity to create a platform for people to use, especially in the what their heart naturally desires, and that is giving back our people. I couldn’t be more happier with our turnout. Hope to see everyone for the 6th Annual Come Give Thanks With Us in 2019!”
