A standing room only gathering of worshipers came to First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches’ two traditional candlelight Christmas Eve Services, a beloved and decades long community tradition. The church was lit by handmade candelabras made by expert woodworker Tommy Covington. FUMC Choir Director Dr. Nicholaus Cummins, soloists Whitney Cummins, and Lisa Benner performed several carols. FUMC Pastor Rev. Doug de Graffenried led the service assisted by Rev. Clair Carter, Rev Julia Puac-Romero and Rev. Doug Cain. The service concluded with the congregation singing “Silent Night” and a benediction by pastor de Graffenried.
The services, always an occasion for family reunions, had an international flair this year. Ms. Leyla Fettweis, niece of Andy and Christine Ferrell and a native of Brussels, Belgium, will be living with her American family while earning her BFA in dance at NSU.
