One of the area’s longest running, though not as well known, tournaments was held this weekend, Feb. 15-16 as the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts hosted the 25th annual SLAMT (Schools in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas) competition. The SLAMT is an annual competition held between the LSMSA and its sister schools in nearby states. While the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science could not make this year’s event, the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science joined the competition and brought a team to the event. The SLAMT is held at a different school each year and a traveling trophy is kept by the winning school. The LSMSA once again hosted the competition and students battled it out in flag football, soccer, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, basketball, tennis, and volleyball. The school also hosted a bonfire to close out the competition.
The LSMSA Eagles repeated last year’s performance and handily won the competition. The trophy will reside in Natchitoches for the next year – right where it belongs!
