STEVE PEZANT MAKES IT OFFICIAL: ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR SHERIFF OF NATCHITOCHES PARISH

Long time Louisiana State Trooper, and winner of the 2018 Natchitoches Kiwanis Trooper of the Year Award, Steve Pezant, announces his candidacy for Sheriff of Natchitoches Parish in the upcoming fall election. Current Sheriff, Victor Jones, recently announced his retirement thus creating the vacancy.

“I strongly believe the citizens of Natchitoches Parish want a law enforcement officer as their Sheriff,” Pezant said. “Less politics, more law enforcement and more law enforcement training for our personnel will be my commitment,” Pezant continued.

Pezant served as a Louisiana State Trooper, Troop E, for 26 years from 1993 to 2019. He retired from the Louisiana State Police to seek the Sheriff’s position.

Pezant has an extensive background in law enforcement. He served from 1990-92 as a Deputy Sheriff in Pike County, Miss., before joining the Louisiana State Police in 1993. Pezant is a dual graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy and the Louisiana State Police Academy.

During his career with the Louisiana State Police, he served as a Field Training Officer and on the Mobile Field Force Unit for Troop E.

Pezant served much of his years in the LSP in and around Natchitoches Parish.

“I have served the citizens of Natchitoches Parish as a law enforcement officer for years,” Pezant said, “and I would be still doing the same thing as the Sheriff. I have worked in every community, driven every road and responded to emergencies and crime related problems throughout our parish.”

Pezant is a graduate of McComb High School, received his Associate of Arts degree from Southwest Mississippi Junior College in 1987, his Associate of General Studies from Northwestern State in 1989, and earned his Bachelors of General Studies from Northwestern State in 1990.

Throughout his State Police career, Pezant, 51, has been assigned to protection and law enforcement details for numerous major events around Louisiana including the New Orleans Mardi Gras on numerous occasions, Natchitoches Christmas Festival, three NFL Super Bowls and the NBA All Star game in New Orleans, NASA Space Shuttle Columbia Recovery, Louisiana Governor details, United States Presidential Detail for the North American Leaders’ Summit, and escort for the Northwestern State University football program for the last 18 years.

Pezant was named Troop E Member of the Year for the Louisiana State Troopers Association in 2003.

He is deeply involved with the Louisiana State Troopers Association, serving as Troop E Affiliate’s President from 2009-15 and on the association’s Board of Directors on a statewide level.

He is also a member of the Louisiana Peace Officers Association.

“I have spent my professional life enforcing the law, working to help people and training to be a better law enforcement professional,” Pezant concluded.

Steve Pezant is married to Tammie Moreau Pezant and they have one daughter, Sonja. He is the son of Joe B. Pezant and the late Sonja Brock Pezant.

“I humbly ask for everyone’s support and vote, and remember, I’m not running against anyone, I’m running for the Office of Sheriff.”
