Teens learn anime drawing techniques at Natchitoches Parish Library

Presenter Carlos Nieto III visited the Natchitoches Parish Library this weekend to share Anime Your Way, an anime drawing program that shows a simple approach to creating one’s own anime characters.

Nieto’s artistic talent led him to a job on the Emmy-winning show “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill” as a Layout Artist. He also worked as a Visual Consultant for Disney and Universal, creating sketches and final art for set designs as well as conducting Comic Book making, Anime and Animation drawing workshops at libraries across the country. He currently works with Children and families at Children’s hospital Los Angeles as an Artist in Residence, providing them with an artistic escape from the anxiety and stress of being in a hospital.

With an engaging yet straightforward style Nieto taught the teens gathered at the library how to create a character beginning with a simple circle and a straight edge to draw lines. The group worked with ways of varying different elements of their drawings to give their characters a range of expressions. The resulting pieces show some wonderfully unique characters from these talented young artists.

During his program, Nieto encourages teens not to be intimidated by the prospect of drawing and also to pursue and nurture their interests because those interests just may become a career they will enjoy. Nieto will also visit libraries in Baton Rouge and in Zachary before returning to California.
